Task 1 — Writing an Email

As a bank teller, you have noticed that many elderly customers are struggling to use the new banking app. Write an email to your manager suggesting a training workshop for these customers. In your email, explain the problem, propose a solution, and describe the benefits.

Suggested length: about 150 words.

Dear Mr. Henderson, I am writing to propose a solution that I believe would greatly benefit our elderly customers who visit our downtown Toronto branch. As a teller, I interact with these customers daily, and I have noticed that many of them are becoming increasingly frustrated with our new digital banking application. The main problem is not that these customers are unwilling to learn new technology. Many of them are actually quite eager to embrace it, recognizing the convenience it offers. The issue is that the app's interface uses small fonts, complex navigation menus, and terminology that assumes a high level of digital literacy. Just last Tuesday, Mrs. Kowalski spent nearly twenty minutes trying to deposit a cheque through the app before giving up and coming into the branch in person. I would like to propose that we offer a series of free, in-branch digital literacy workshops specifically designed for seniors. These would be one-hour sessions held on Saturday mornings, covering basic tasks like depositing cheques, checking balances, and paying bills online. I would be happy to lead these sessions myself, as I have developed a natural rapport with many of our senior clients over the years.

Task 2 — Responding to Survey Questions

You recently attended a condo board meeting. Complete a survey response about your experience. Include your opinion on the meeting's organization, the topics discussed, and suggestions for future meetings.

Suggested length: about 150 words.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback on the condo board meeting held last Tuesday. I have lived at 85 Queens Quay for four years, and this was the most productive board meeting I have attended to date. I strongly support the board's decision to proceed with the lobby renovation. The current design was installed in 2008 and no longer reflects the modern, welcoming atmosphere that a waterfront building like ours should project. I was particularly pleased that the board presented three different design options with clear cost breakdowns, rather than presenting a single proposal without alternatives. This transparency made it much easier for residents to form an informed opinion during the discussion period. However, I have one concern that I hope the board will address at the next meeting. The renovation timeline of four months seems optimistic given that the building's freight elevator is already booked for a plumbing project in October. I would like to see a more detailed project schedule that accounts for these potential conflicts before we proceed with signing contracts.
