Can You Use a Calculator on the TEAS Exam? (2026 Rule)
Yes - a calculator is provided, not brought
You can use a calculator on the TEAS 7, but only the one the testing software gives you. Personal calculators - handheld, graphing, scientific or otherwise - are not permitted in the testing room. On the computer-delivered exam the calculator appears on screen; centres running paper forms provide an equivalent basic calculator.
What the on-screen calculator can and cannot do
- Basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
- Square roots, percentages and basic memory functions on most builds.
- No graphing capability. No trigonometric or scientific functions.
- No fraction button - enter fractions as decimals or division.
Keep your arithmetic simple and your rounding sensible. The Math section is 38 questions in 57 minutes; the calculator speeds up the numbers, but the real skill is knowing when not to reach for it. A question testing unit conversion or a ratio may be faster by hand.
Which sections have a calculator
Only the Mathematics section provides a calculator. Reading, Science and English & Language Usage have no calculator of any kind - nothing there requires one.
Practice like test day
The free TEAS Math drill is built to the exam's content split (Numbers & Algebra, Measurement & Data) and every answer is explained. If calculator-free or calculator-assisted arithmetic is your weak spot, that is exactly the drill to find out. After the Math section there is an optional 10-minute break; the other three sections run straight through.
Calculator availability can vary by testing centre and delivery mode. Confirm the rule with your test site when you book - it is one line in the booking confirmation that saves you from carrying the wrong expectation.
