How Long Is the TEAS Exam? Total Time, Section Clocks and the Breaks

The headline numbers: 209 minutes, 170 questions

The full TEAS 7 takes 209 minutes (3 hours 29 minutes). That covers 170 questions split across four sections, of which 150 are scored and 20 are unscored pilot items you cannot identify. Add the optional 10-minute break after Math and the check-in time at the centre, and most test-takers are in the building for roughly four hours.

The tightest section is English: one minute per question. Math gives the most seconds per question but demands fast, accurate arithmetic. Because sections close and you cannot return to them, the clock that matters is the one on the section you are in, not the total.

Breaks and flow

There is one optional 10-minute break after the Mathematics section. Reading, Math, Science and English run in that fixed order. If you skip the break you simply start Science sooner - nothing else changes. Unofficial 'sections between breaks' claims you may see online should be checked against your test site's own schedule.

Why the clock is the real opponent

Most candidates who run out of time report it happening in Science and English, not because the questions are deepest there but because a fixed per-section minute budget has no forgiveness. The practical prep move: get your practice timed. The Math, Reading, Science and English drills - 1,200 original questions across ten unique practice tests per section, 100% free: no login, no limits each show the real blueprint counts, and pacing drills beat untimed review for this exam.
